I remember when I grew up watching MTV, Grammy Awards, and the American Music Award.
That moment of the early 90's really meant a lot to me, especially having to find out so many kinds of music from pop, rock to hip hop/rap.
Why in the world I'm suddenly thinking about it? Well, Stone Temple Pilots kinda brought me back to memory lane. They came and sang all my favorite songs, except for Big Bang Baby, and I just completely become a little girl again. The time I heard 'Plush' from them I completely fell in love with they call it at the time.. Alternative Rock.
And so this blog will prove how a die hard fan I am of Alternative Rock and Hard Rock of the 90's. Here are my most memorable songs that I feel kinda stuck with me and sorta become a part of my (soundtrack) life:
Stone Temple Pilots
Plush- The first time I heard the vocals I was like 'Man, that some strong shit vocals!'. Although they were new and people criticized Scott Weiland for imitating Eddie Vedder's vocals from Pearl Jam, I didn't care. He had his charisma and he brought it again in Jakarta last Sunday. Wow! After almost 20 years he still sounds the same.
Next favorite songs from STP: Interstate Love Song, Vasoline, and Big Bang Baby. Sweet!
Radiohead
This British band opened my ears and eyes when 'Creep' kept playing on MTV over and over again. Dad and I used to argue about what the chorus meant. I always thought it says "I don't belong him..." -as if the vocalist was gay (which, of course, he isn't). Then years later, I realized Thom meant "I don't belong here.." Hehehe... I wanted to hear a controversial single :P
Next favorite song from Radiohead: Just, Paranoid Android and Talk Show Host.
Pearl Jam
Jeremy-An epic song and deeply scary yet addictive! Simply a stupendous and epic single that is forever in my head. Talks about a boy who has problems and the demons inside him just made him give up the world as he killed himself in front of his classmates. Goosebumps. Love it.
Next favorite song from Pearl Jam: Alive and Last Kiss
Oasis and Blur
I'm putting them both in the same title as their rivalry in the 90's was such a headliner.
Oasis classics that I liked: Wonderwall, Some Might Say, Morning Glory, Champagne Supernova,Don't look back in anger, Stand By Me, and Whatever.
*Blimey!! I like Oasis songs better than the rest of the other bands?!?!! Whoa, just realized that.
Blur songs I enjoyed listening to: Song 2 (anthem), coffee and tv (classic), Beetlebum (High School memory), Girls and Boys (pop-ish), Music is my Radar, To the End and Charmless Man.
*Man, I really wish Blur does a tour soon to Asia!!*
Soundgarden
I have liked only one song from them but I feel it does affect me in my life a lot since it always pops up in my head and always singing the chorus:"Black hole Sun.. Won't u come... Wash away the rainn... Black Hole Sun.. Won't u come... Won't u come..." -Black Hole Sun.
Aerosmith
Now this band is my favorite band of all time. I used to have, like, 3 cassette tapes from them. I enjoyed lots of their songs, therefore, Steven Tyler is the sexiest Rocker in the world! (until Idol happened).
My favorite playlist when I just turned 10-Janie's gotta gun and Love in the Elevator ( I know, right?)
My next favorite songs from Aerosmith- Alive, Crazy, Jaded, Hole in my Soul and Pink.
Jon Bon Jovi
Who doesn't like Bon Jovi and the gang? My most memorable one from them is "Always". It was painful to remember but it did touched me deeply.
Before that it was Keep the Faith, Livin on a prayer and You give love a Bad Name.
Queensryche
I think 'Silent Lucidity' is the sweetest lullaby ever. I loved them with their only single.
Black Crows
The vocalist -as usual- is hot. That's why they took my attention. 'Hard to Handle' was my favorite song.
Extreme
Ok, if you never knew this song that means you're not human and you don't deserve to live on Earth. The song is 'More than Words'... *Silent Moment*.
Saigon Kick
Another sweet sweet song called "I love you". Lots of rock bands at these times were competing on who made the nicest ballads. Sooo corny yet.. it Worked!
Firehouse
Hello?? 'Love of a Lifetime' ??!? Easy Rock Listening, where I used to hear it almost everyday on the way to school early in the morning, inside the school bus. Driver must have been a fan. *doh*
Def Leppard
Let's get Rock!- This song was in my head coz the video clip is kinda fun to watch. I think it was one of the first animated videos shown on tv screens.
Nine Inch Nails
Closer- Wow! I like the disturbing video and the vocalist. Trent is a hottie!
Perfect Drug- Yah.. Pretty much says it all.. Perfect!
Guns N Roses
November Rain- A long, meaningful song and such a tragic video clip. Well, who didn't like GNR at the time? You would've also been from a different planet.
Ok.. I will continue my list in the near future. For now, think about the 90's like it is thinking about you. It may be gone but stays forever in our hearts and soul.
Peace out.. Rock on!!
